A MAN was stabbed in an assault outside a shop.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack in Wallsend, Northumberland.
"Police received a report from the ambulance service at 3.48pm Wednesday, May 13, that a 20-year-old man had been assaulted in the street outside the Premier Shop on Tynemouth Road, Wallsend," said a spokesman for Northumbria Police.
"Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where it was found he had sustained a stab wound, he is still receiving hospital treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening and his condition is described as stable.
"A 27-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody helping police with their enquiries. It is believed the two men are known to each other."
Extra officers are in the area speaking with residents and offering reassurance.
