FORMER chart-topper Sophie Ellis-Bextor is to play a free concert in the North-East this summer.

The Murder On The Dancefloor star will play with The Feeling at Bents Park, in South Shields on Sunday, July 26 as part of the South Tyneside Festival.

The singer, who scored a number one hit with the single Groovejet, last performed at the festival in 2011 and is currently working on her sixth studio album.

She will also perform tracks from her latest album, Wanderlust, which reached number four in the charts last year.

The mother-of-three will take to the stage with her husband and bassist, Richard Jones, and his group, The Feeling.
