A UNIQUE run staged by a football club charity is gearing up for its fifth year.

Entries have opened for the Sunderland Foundation of Light's Lambton 10k run and 3k fun run through the grounds of the iconic and exclusive Lambton Estate, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, the setting for popular BBC drama The Paradise.

Sponsored by nutrition supplier Nutrition X, the 10k course attracts almost 700 club and recreational runners and passes alongside Lambton Castle, while the 3k Junior Black Cats Fun Run offers a less-challenging alternative for young children and families.

To celebrate the event's fifth year on Sunday June 21, the foundation will give spot prizes including signed Sunderland AFC memorabilia.

Local companies, football teams, schools and community groups can take on the Lambton Team Challenge, with prizes for the fastest team and the team that raises the most for the Foundation.

Jemma Garrett, the Foundation of Light's Events Coordinator, said: "The Lambton Estate is one of the most secret iconic locations in the North of England and we are absolutely delighted it will host our fifth annual Lambton Run.

"The event offers something for everyone; the 10k event is perfect for those training towards the Great North Run while the 3k fun run is ideal for families and runners of all ages, mobility and experience."

The foundation needs to raise more than £4m every year to continue its work with more than 39,000 adults and children who take its courtses.
