TWO flights into and out of the North-East were affected by medical emergencies today (Monday, March 23).

Emirates flight EK35 from Dubai to Newcastle declared an emergency at about 11am today (Monday, March 23), according to airlive.net.

An Emirates spokesman said the flight was given priority landing due to a "medical emergency onboard".

He added: "The aircraft landed safely and the passenger was met and attended to by medical staff.”

Meanwhile, an Easyjet flight from Newcastle to Barcelona had to be diverted via Bournemouth after a passenger needed medical help.

A spokesman said: “Easyjet can confirm that flight EZY6401 from Newcastle to Barcelona diverted to Bournemouth Airport today as a result of a passenger requiring urgent medical assistance.

“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is Easyjet’s highest priority.

“The passenger was met by paramedics and the flight is now continuing to Barcelona.

“We apologise for any inconvenience experienced due to the diversion and resulting delay.”
