THE son of the man who founded Greggs bakers has appeared in court charged with 26 sexual offences against children.
Colin Gregg, 73, who has been both the headmaster of a private school and a social worker, is to stand trial accused of indecently assaulting boys under the age of 16.
All the offences are alleged to have taken place between 1963 and 1991.
Mr Gregg, of Home Steadings, Gosforth, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates Court where he had his case transferred to Newcastle Crown Court. He will appear on March 18.
Judge Stephen Earle said: "There is an indication in this case of a not guilty plea.
"I have read the details which have been provided by the crown prosecution service and I am of the view that this is a matter for the crown court."
