PRINCE Harry will be visiting rural Northumberland during his visit to the North-East next week.

The 30-year-old royal will be at the Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Red Squirrels Northern England (RSNE) project on Wednesday and see first-hand its work to conserve the red squirrel population.

Wildlife photographer Will Nicholls will explain how he is promoting conservation through his pictures at the Haydon Bridge facility and the prince will also learn how the RSNE controls grey squirrels in order to make space for reds.

Prince Harry will be joined by explorer Conrad Dickinson, his polar guide during the Walking with the Wounded Antarctic Expedition in 2013.

He will then go to the Armed Forces and Veterans Launchpad charity at Avondale House in Newcastle, which supports veterans making the transition to civilian life.

The Prince will be shown around and meet veterans living at Avondale House, as well as members of Launchpad’s staff and support agencies.

Major Kenneth James McMillan, from the charity, said: “Our 30 armed forces veterans are currently undertaking work on the Byker estate.

“As you can imagine the guys are super excited about Prince Harry’s visit.”
