SOME of the North-East’s most talented upcoming unsigned acts have been selected to play at a music industry showcase at the weekend.

Thirteen acts will take to the main stage at Newcastle’s O2 Academy, as part of the North- East's Soundwave Music Competition, from 5.30pm on Saturday (January 31).

The rapidly growing competition is returning in its fourth year features The Voice UK celebrity Anna McLuckie as star guest.

Over 1,000 acts nationally applied for the opportunity and 300 were chosen to battle it out in front of a panel of judges at a series of smaller intimate auditions at The Head of Steam, in Newcastle.

The contest aims to showcase the best of the region’s musical talents to industry professionals in front of a capacity crowd for their chance to bag the ultimate prize pack including - a full day’s recording contract at Gateshead’s Broadwater Recording Studios and wider media coverage.

About 1,000 people are expected to attend as the finalists go head-to-head.

The show will be presented by some of the region’s biggest radio DJ’s and attended by record label and management executives.
