POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a spate of car vandalism.

More than 20 cars had their tyres punctured between Saturday, January 10,, and Monday, January 12, in Washington.

The cars were parked in the Firtree Avenue, Hawthorn Crescent, Cedar Terrace, Rowan Avenue and Pinewood Avenue areas of Harraton.

This follows a spate of similar crimes the previous weekend across Washington.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for any witnesses or information.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Wayne Sinclair said: "We believe these offences have taken place between Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday morning.

"We want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed anything or has any information either third hand from family, friends or social media.

"These are mindless crimes and have a great impact on people’s lives in terms of disruption and financial implications."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101, extension 69191, quoting reference number 545 12/01/15, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
