A CORONATION Street-loving bishop has visited the North-East service that signs the soap for deaf viewers.
The Right Reverend Mark Bryant, Bishop of Jarrow, is a lifelong soap fan and often references TV plot lines in his church sermons and blog.
Earlier this year, Coronation Street producers invited him to become a guest blogger for the show and visit the set, in Salford.
Following the visit, Spennymoor churchwarden Christopher Luke, who works at ITV SignPost, invited Bishop Bryant to see how programmes are signed for deaf and hard of hearing viewers.
From its Tyneside offices, SignPost works with television shows and other media content exported all over the world.
The bishop said: “It’s an extraordinary success story from here in the North-East.
“The work being done makes programmes like Corrie accessible to many people all over the world.”
Mr Luke said: “When I heard that Bishop Mark was such a big fan of Coronation Street and had visited the set it felt like a good idea to invite him to see how the show, and many others, are signed.”
