A CITY street was turned into a ‘Wonderland’ tonight as the famous Fenwick’s Christmas window was revealed.
Crowds flocked to Northumberland Street in Newcastle as the company launched its build-up to the festive period with a display inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic novel ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’.
The street was brought alive by 3D animated characters and music that evoked the spirit of Christmas.
Company chairman, Mark Fenwick said: “Christmas is a magical time for everyone and the excitement of creating these windows is one of the highlights of our year.”
Fenwick is an independent family business, with 11 stores throughout the country.
The business was founded in 1882 in Newcastle, where the existing store is now one of the largest provincial department stores in the UK.
The first animated Christmas window was unveiled in 1971 with the childrens’ TV series Camberwick Green as its theme.
