THE location of the first giant water slide event in the North-East has been revealed.

Following mounting speculation organisers Sunderland Live has announced that the 100 metre slide will be situated in Herrington Country Park, in the shadow of Penshaw Monument, on Wearside.

Dubbed WearSlide, it will take place on Saturday, April 25, offering hundreds of people the chance to take the plunge and splash their way down the plastic water chute.

A smaller version will also be set up adjacent to the main slide to allow younger thrill-seekers the chance to enjoy the experience.

Similar events brought Bristol city centre and Derby to a stand-still last summer and Sunderland Live was keen to bring the watery fun to Wearside.

Chris Alexander, chief operating officer at Sunderland Live, the Wearside arts and events management team, said: “Herrington Country Park is the perfect location for the event.

“We will make use of the natural facilities the park has to offer and create a fantastic atmosphere around the slide.

“We want to make it as accessible as possible so we will be putting a number of tickets on sale very soon, priced £5 for children and £10 for adults.

“We’ll also be giving away some places nearer the time.”

The first two “tickets to slide” were given away as part of the event’s mounting social media campaign, last month, with Lyndsey Jennings and Julie Moon named as the lucky winners.

Ticket applications can be made via www.sunderlandlive.co.uk, the event team’s website.

Apart from individual applications, packages are being offered for charity groups and registered organisations, via the same site.
