A WOMAN was hurt after a lit firework was thrown into her car from another vehicle.

It happened on Sea Road, Sunderland, at 3.40pm on Wednesday, October 15.

She was sitting in her stationary car when a man in a dark coloured Audi car threw a lit firework into her car and drove off.

It exploded, injuring the 35-year-old woman and damaging her car.

The woman suffered shock and was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital where she received treatment for her injuries before being released.

Twenty minutes earlier a woman saw two fireworks being thrown from a black Audi car, one at the junction of Fulwell Road and Roker Avenue, and the second at the junction of Fulwell Road and Roker Baths Road.

Both were thrown onto the road near to passing cars but no damage was reported.

Sergeant Graeme Ward said: "Throwing fireworks is extremely dangerous and can have serious consequences and we won't tolerate this dangerous anti-social behaviour. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact officers."

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man over the incidents.
