A GANG of masked men burst into a home and made off with electric goods and cash in a terrifying raid last night (Sunday, October 19).

A police spokesman said three men wearing masks and gloves – one armed with a knife - gained entry to a home in The Retreat, Sunderland just before midnight last night.

They threatened the occupants before making a search of the property. The men, who were also wearing gloves, made off with money, a lap top, mobile phones and an iPad.

The occupants were left shaken but unharmed by the incident.

Detective Sergeant Simon Auty, from Northumbria Police's major crime team, said: "Our inquiries into this incident are continuing today.

“Detectives are following all lines of inquiry to trace those responsible.

"Thankfully no-one was hurt but this was a frightening experience for those involved.

"I'd urge anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the address before or after the burglary to come forward.

"Anyone who may have been offered the stolen items for sale should also contact us.”

He added: "We know this will have caused concern among residents in the area.

“We have officers on patrol to provide reassurance and I'd urge people to speak to them with any worries they may have."

Anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police on 101, extension 69191 quoting log number 1444 19/10/14 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
