AN ELDERLY man has died after a crash in Whitley Bay.
Around 5.20pm this evening police recieved a report that a Peugeot had collided with a lorry in Monkseaton Drive.
"Police, fire and paramedics attended and the two people in the car, a 90-year-old man and a 87-year-old woman, were taken to Rake Lane hospital for treatment," said a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police.
"The man later died from his injuries. His next of kin are being informed. The woman remains in hospital."
The road was closed for around three hours to allow for collision investigation.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the collision to contact them on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 899 09/10/14
