A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy who died after being found in a garden pond has been named.

Callum Grahame Greenwood was found in a garden pond at Elswick Road in the west end of Newcastle last night. 

Police in Newcastle received a report at just before 7pm that the toddler, who had been playing in a relative's garden, was missing

Officers from Northumbria Police went to Elswick Road and found the boy in a pond in the garden of the same the address about ten minutes after the initial call.

He was taken to the RVI hospital in Newcastle where he was pronounced dead.

Enquiries are being carried out and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Northumbria Police Superintendent Mick Paterson said: "This is an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. They are understandably absolutely devastated and officers with specialist training are providing them with support."

A spokesperson for the force said this morning: "There's no third party involvement and a report will be prepared for the coroner."
