A CHARITY rugby match is to be staged in memory of a young mother who died of cancer.

Kelly Kasher, a mother-of-three from Lanchester, County Durham, died of pneumonia following a battle with lymphoma and leukaemia in March 2012, aged 27.

Since then, various fundraising events have taken place in aid of Help for Heroes and the chemotherapy day unit at the University Hospital of North Durham (UHND), Durham City, where Miss Kasher was cared for.

Now on what would have been her 30th birthday, Sunday, September 7, friends and relatives will be involved in a charity rugby match and family fun day at Houghton-le-Spring Rugby Club, on the Wearside town’s Dairy Lane.

There will be an over 35s match and possibly a women’s game, plus stalls and refreshments.

The event starts at 12.30pm, with the veterans’ match kicking off at 3pm.

Entry is free but donations are welcome, with proceeds going to the chemotherapy unit at UHND.
