WEARMOUTH Bridge in Sunderland is being closed for several days to allow re-surfacing and re-modelling of the busy southern roundabout.

The bridge will close for all of Sunday (August 17) and the following five nights.

Diversions are being put in place from 6am on Sunday, with the roundabout and Wearmouth Bridge re-opening to vehicles from 6am on Monday 18 August.

Limited bus services can cross the bridge in both directions during the peak service time of the 24-hour closure on Sunday.

The southern roundabout and bridge are to be closed to all vehicles overnight from 7.30pm on Monday (August 18) until 6am on Tuesday (August 19).

The same overnight closure times apply on the ensuing Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.

No buses will be able to use the bridge on the overnight closures.
