A WOMAN has celebrated her 101st birthday by spending it at Beamish Museum.
Polly Byers, who was born in Stanley, on March 27, 1917, now lives at Stoneleigh Care Home in the town.
She, along with fellow residents and staff, spent Tuesday at Orchard Cottage which is at the open air museum’s 1940s farm.
Celebrations included afternoon tea, playing traditional games and enjoying a sing-along around the piano.
Mrs Byers said: “It was wonderful spending time together with great company and singing along to my favourite songs. It really was a very special day.”
Mrs Byers said she enjoyed her birthday cake and was delighted with the birthday presents she received from Beamish Museum.
Care home manager Kay Rudd said: “The team at Stoneleigh was delighted to help this remarkable lady celebrate her 101st birthday and to be able to join in the birthday celebrations for Polly.”
Stephen Butterworth, of HC-One, which owns the home, said: “Polly’s birthday celebrations sounds great.”
