BOMB disposal experts were called out to a County Durham village this morning after a Second World War smoke mortar was found in a house.
The occupants of the house and a nearby property were evacuated following the discovery at about 11.25am in North Road, Harelaw, near Stanley.
Durham Police attended the incident and alerted the Army's bomb disposal team, based at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
The team removed the mortar, which was deemed to be safe.
