A KARATE club is celebrating after winning a brace of medals at an international competition.
Shikkari Karate Kai scored several success at the recent Unified World Championships in Italy.
As well as training hard for the contest, club members has to raise £1,000 each in funds to take part.
Chief instructor Brett Wilkinson said: “I am very proud of all the hard work and dedication they all put in and their achievements mirror that.
“It’s an outstanding achievement for such young individuals to have even qualified for a big occasion like this.”
Emily Beales, 14, from Stanley, won two gold medals in kumite and point fighting while Daniel McCormick, nine, from Stanley, won gold in kumite.
Chloe Cullen, 11, from Consett, Jake Nixon, 11, from Stanley, and Daniel McCormick, came back with silver medals in team kumite.
Miss Cullen, who independently won a silver in kumite, also, along with Jaimee Lambert 10, and Amber McCormick 11, both from Stanley, won bronze medals in team kumite.
