A PARTY has been held in a bank in honour of a grandmother who is retiring after more than quarter of a century.
Anne Johnson started work at the Bradford and Bingley on Front Street in Stanley over 26 years ago, and remained when the branch was taken over by Santander in 2009.
Yesterday, colleagues surprised her with a party lunch, flowers and cards from well-wishers.
Mrs Johnson, 59, from Tantobie, near Stanley, lives with her husband, Billy, 61, and has two children, Gemma, 32, and Ben, 29.
She plans to spend her retirement looking after her seven-month-old grandson, Charlie, and enjoying holidays.
Mrs Johnson said: “I have seen a lot of customers grow up from children into adults and bring their children in which has been lovely.
“I have been spoilt this morning. I did not want any fuss. I just wanted to go but I must admit I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
“It has been a really good send off. I have had some lovely presents. I was not expecting it but it has been a day to remember.”
