A SCHOOL is holding an open day to give parents of potential pupils the chance to meet the new headteacher.

Kevin Reynolds has been appointed as the new principal of North Durham Academy in Stanley.

The open day for parents and carers of Year Six pupils from feeder schools in the area is on Thursday, February 9, at 6pm.

It is a chance to meet Mr Reynolds, who also leads Consett Academy, take a tour of the campus, meet key staff and find out more about the multi-million pound school.

Mr Reynolds said: “My abiding passion is for all students to be nurtured as uniquely talented individuals, finding fulfilment through their learning and the development of their intellectual, creative, physical and emotional capabilities.

“We aim for our students to develop moral integrity and become responsible global citizens.”

David Thornton, North Durham Academy’s former principal, retired at Christmas.

The £30m school opened in September 2013 following the merger of Stanley School of Technology and Greencroft Business and Enterprise Community School.

Two years ago Ofsted inspector concluded the school ‘needed improvement’.

Mr Reynolds said: “The educational experience at North Durham Academy brings change, challenge and opportunity.”
