A MAN was airlifted to hospital with serious burns following a fire in a garage.
Firefighters were called to a garage in Stanley, County Durham, at 1.38pm yesterday (Tuesday, January 3).
The fire service’s group manager Robin Turnbull said the garage was attached to a house in Causey Way, Kip Hill.
Two fire engines from High Handenhold and Consett attended the incident and took about 45 minutes to put out the fire using one hose reel and a positive pressure ventilation [PPV] fan.
Firefighters gave first aid to two men at the scene.
A man in his 60s was given oxygen and treated for burns to the head and hand before being flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said he suffered severe burns but arrived at hospital in a stable condition.
The other man was given precautionary medicated oxygen at the scene but was not taken to hospital.
Mr Turnbull added that a fire investigation would not be taking place.
