A TEENAGE swimmer is making a sporting comeback to help a little boy with a rare form of cancer.

Fifteen-year-old Megan Singen, from Stanley, used to represent County Durham but had to stop four years ago as she needed operations on her hips.

She is still part of Derwentside Amateur swimming Club at The Louisa Centre as a time keeper but has vowed to go back into the water to help little Daniel Rainbow, from Stanley.

The youngster is currently undergoing treatment after he was diagnosed with stage four high risk neuroblastoma last February.

Megan is not just going back in the pool, though.

She is planning a half mile swim across Lake Windermere as part of the Great North Swim on June 12.

The year ten pupil at St Bede’s School in Lanchester said: “Daniel is a really canny lad and is one of the most adorable kids you could ever meet.

“I wanted to do something that would challenge myself because I have not been swimming for a long time.

“I am quite scared because I am only used to doing indoor swimming.”

Megan is hoping to raise £500-£1,000 to help Daniel’s family with his treatment.

She added: “I would like to ask anyone who can to please donate.”
