A CHARITY golf tournament is being held to raise money for a life-saving emergency service.

South Moor Golf Club, near Stanley, is hosting the competition in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance.

The flying doctors and paramedics, which are dependent on donations, race into action to rescue severely ill or injured people over 1,000 times a year at an average cost of around £2,500 per mission.

Golfers are asked to enter as teams of four in the South Moor Charity Shield on May 27, the club lady captain’s day.

Ladies’ captain Pam Tate, who chose the charity for her tournament, said: “The air ambulance rely on public generosity to function and survive and their care is of the highest standard as well as pioneering.”

Entry costs £60 for a team of four and can be made of men and women.

Tee times are 7am to 3pm and entry covers a buffet and disco.

Entries should be made by post to Pam Tate, Springwell, Langley Park, Co Durham DH7 9YB (email pamtate1932@gmail.com).

Enclose a cheque for £60 payable to SMGC Ladies Section, with every player’s home club and handicap plus an email address.
