A GROUP which raises funds for a cancer charity is hoping to recruit new volunteers to run its local branch.

The Marie Curie Consett and Stanley Fundraising Group needs to find a new chairperson, secretary and other volunteers in time to take part in a string of events planned for the run-up to Christmas.

The charity, which raises funds to keep the Marie Curie nursing service running in the area, is to hold a meeting at Consett Fire Station on Villa Real Road at the end of September.

A date and time has yet to be set for the meeting and anyone interested in finding out further details is asked to call Katie Searles on 0191-219-1205.

The meeting will let people know about plans for the future of the group and is open to anyone who wants to join.

Katie Searles, Community Fundraiser at Marie Curie, said: “We already have some fantastic support in the Consett and Stanley area.

“We are currently looking for a chair and a secretary for the group, so if you are interested in these roles or in becoming a member, please get in touch.”

The Consett and Stanley Fundraising Group takes part in annual campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal and Blooming Great Tea Party to ensure Marie Curie nurses can continue to provide free care to people with terminal illnesses.
