HONOURS have been given to people in north Durham who have made a positive contribution in their community.
The Stanley Town Council chairman’s awards night was held at the Civic Hall last week and all nine nominees received a certificate and an engraved glass trophy.
People were recognised for sporting achievements, charity work, lifelong dedication to a local sports club, giving up their time to put something back into their local area and for inspiring others to do the same.
The recipients and their families and friends were invited to a reception where food was provided along with entertainment from the Beamish Museum choir, who performed North-East folk songs and a set from the 1950’s.
Council chairman Councillor Joan Nicholson said: “It was a great honour to present the first Chairman’s Awards to the nine deserving people who gave their time to give so much to the community.”
The winners were William Burgess, Norman Whiteford, Katie Reay-Robertson, Andrew Craggs, Liam Bell, Michael MacGurk, Alex Sawyer-Copus, Andrew Hetherington and Brad Whitfield.
