A BEAUTY queen from the North-East is taking part in a gruelling charity challenge.

The 24-year-old, from Stanley, County Durham, is cycling 23 miles from Hart Side to Ullswater, kayaking the nine mile length of the lake and swimming the three quarter mile width.

She said: “I am not sure how long it is going to take. I am just going to get on with it.”

Miss Casser-Thurgood, who is raising money for the Beauty with a Purpose charity, has also helped organise a netball tournament at St Bede’s School in Lanchester on July 29.

Teams are made up of seven players and entry costs £7. To take part call Miss Casser-Thurgood on 0755-787-0362.

She is hoping to be crown Miss England at the national contest next month and is appealing for support in the public vote popularity section. Supporters can help her get to the final 15 by texting MISS ENGLAND48 to 63333. Messages cost 50p each.

Miss Casser-Thurgood, a healthcare worker, said: “I have enjoyed being Miss Durham but it is quite tough fitting everything in as I still have to work to support myself.

“I would still love the chance of becoming Miss England though. It is something I would thrive on.”
