A WOMAN has had more than 15 inches removed from her hair, raising over £500 for charity.
It is the first time in more than 40 years Pat Simmonds, from Durham, has had short hair.
Her locks will be used to make wigs for children being treated for cancer through the Little Princess Trust and the money will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.
The 62-year-old planning support officer had the chop at Reef in Bannatyne’s, Durham, today (Tuesday, June 2).
She said: “It is very short, but I am not as upset as I thought I might be. I am over the moon to have raised over £500, so it has been worthwhile.”
Mrs Simmonds has collected more than 30 prizes to be raffled on June 12, which led to £100 being raised.

Last month, eleven-year-old Grace Blackwood, who attends Catchgate Primary School, near Stanley, raised more than £1,000 by having her long hair cut short for the Little Princess Trust.
