A FREE course to help people manage their money better is being offered by a housing provider in north Durham.

The six-week course covers issues such as using bank accounts, budgeting and getting the best energy deals and aims to prevent people from falling into financial difficulty.

Organised through Derwentside Homes’ Brighter Futures project, the course is open to everyone. Those completing the training are awarded a NOCN

Level Two Financial Literacy Budgeting and Money Management qualification.

The courses are organised by Michelle Graham, who runs the project, which aims to help unemployed people into work or training.

She said: “Money is tight for everyone right now but being able to manage your finances effectively can make a big difference, which is why we decided to offer this free course to local people.

“With the introduction of Universal Credit in the near future, learning to budget is an increasingly important skill for many of our tenants and local residents.

“Hopefully this course will prepare them for the changes and help them avoid financial difficulties.”

The Financial Literacy courses are open to everyone, with Derwentside Homes tenants receiving £30 credit to their rent account on completion of the course.

The next course takes place in September. To find out more or reserve a place call Michelle Graham on 01207 524205.
