A BIKER was badly hurt in a head-on collision with a car driven by an 87-year-old man.

It happened last night (Tuesday, April 21) at 6pm on the A693 at the junction leading to Pelaw Avenue, Stanley, County Durham.

The Ford Focus was heading towards Stanley when it and the Triumph Street Triple R675cc motorcycle, which was heading eastwards, collided.

The bike rider, a man aged 33 from Hebburn, South Tyneside suffered serious hip and leg injuries.

He was taken to the RVI in Newcastle where he was said to be stable.

The car driver, from Perkinsville, near Chester-le-Street, injured his right arm and was treated at the University Hospital of North Durham, Durham City, and released.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the investigating officer, PC Colin Martin, of the Durham Constabulary road policing unit, on 101.
