PEOPLE in North Durham are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote.
Monday (April 20) is the deadline for the General Election on May 7.
Every eligible person has to register individually whereas before registration was done by the head of a household.
Kevan Jones, Labour candidate for North Durham, said: “Whilst significant progress has been made over the last few months to encourage people to register, the numbers still seem to be down on previous years. In particular, the number of ‘attainers’, 16 and 17 year olds, appearing on the register is still around 300 short of the usual figure.
“The deadline is fast approaching to register in time for the General Election, and I would particularly encourage those who have recently turned 18, or will do so before May 7, to make sure they to do not miss out on their chance to vote.
“It only takes a few minutes to do online, and I would encourage anyone yet to register to make sure they do before the deadline on Monday.”
