A VISITOR farm held a special lambing event to celebrate the start of the Easter season.

Hall Hill Farm’s “Lambing Live” event was hosted by 23-year-old farmer and shepherd Richard Darlington.

Members of the public were invited to speak with animal experts, feed the pet sheep, and watch a lamb being born at the farm attraction, near Lanchester

Video footage of the lambs was broadcast live on the farm’s website through their special “lamb cam”.

Mr Darlington, who has hosted the event since 2012, said: “We’ve heard of people from New Zealand, Australia, and all over the world watching our lamb cam. It’s been extremely good for the farm.”

The Hall Hill Farm flock is made up of more than 100 sheep, and it is estimated that around 200 more will be born during the Easter months.

Lambing season is one of the biggest and busiest events in the farming calendar, with more than 16 million lambs being born in the UK every year. At Hall Hill Farm, this event marks a long standing tradition, as the newborn lambs were what drew the first visitors to the farm in 1981. Since then, the farm has gone on to become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the North East, and has won a number of tourism awards.
