THE North-East’s Beamish Museum is one of the country’s top three favourite places funded by the National Lottery.
Social media users voted for the attraction, near Stanley, County Durham, in the National Treasures poll held to mark the game’s 20th anniversary,
Since 1994 players have raised more than £32bn for more than 430,000 projects across the UK.
More than £53bn has been paid out in prizes and more than 3,600 millionaires created so far.
Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, celebrates North-East heritage and tells the story of people living in the area in the early 1800s, early 1900s and 1940s.
Museum director Richard Evans said: “We’re honoured. National Lottery investment has helped us achieve great things, including not just buildings but new ways of connecting to the communities whose heritage we represent. Thanks to everyone who voted for us.”
The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire was the most popular venue, followed by The Eden Project, Cornwall.
