THREE men were arrested after a car collided with another vehicle before ploughing into a house.

Emergency services were alerted after a black VW Golf collided with a silver Honda Jazz in Wear Road, Stanley, County Durham, at 10.20am yesterday (Monday, October 6).

A police spokesman said: “The Golf left the road and ended up in the garden of a property and hit the house, which was slightly damaged.

“The driver of the Honda, a 59-year-old woman from the Stanley area, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries, which are not believed to be serious.

“The three occupants of the Golf, all men in their 20s from the Stanley area were arrested.

“The men were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

“They have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.”

Resident Kristina Chambers said: “I was in the back bedroom when I heard a loud gang.

When I looked out of the window I saw a black Golf in the middle of the road and three men pushing it to the footpath.

“The driver of the car appeared to be bleeding from the nose.”

A spokesman for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service sent two appliances to the scene of the crash, but they did not need to extricate anyone.

Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service were also in attendance.
