A LITTLE girl has had her hair cut short to raise money for a fellow pupil and help other children who need to wear wigs after undergoing treatment for cancer.

Ten-year old Olivia Murray had her plaits cut off in front of other children at St Mary’s School in South Moor, Stanley, by hairdresser Jo Algeo.

Olivia was moved to help four-year-old Charlotte Watson, who also attends the school and is in the reception class.

The youngster is currently being treated in America after she was diagnosed as suffering from cancer.

Olivia also organised a raffle and has been making loom bands to sell around school.

She has raised about £230, which will be used to throw a party for Charlotte when she comes home.

Olivia’s mother, Kelly Matthews, a photographer from Shield Row, Stanley, said: “She is a very kind girl and always thinking of ways to help others. I am very proud of her.”

Olivia had about eight-and-a-half inches cut from her 14 inch locks last week and now has a smart bob.

Her plaits will now be used to make a wig by the Little Princess Trust.

Ms Matthews said: “She has done really well and organised everything herself.”
