AN infants school today (Wednesday, September 24) launched a year of celebrations to mark its 40th anniversary.

Balloons decorated the school hall and slices of birthday cake was shared out during morning assembly at Annfield Plain Infants School.

Head teacher Ann Kane said: “Today is the actual 40th anniversary of the opening of the school.

“We will be celebrating throughout the year and next summer will have a big event, which we are going to invited parents, former pupils and the community to join.

“The school is very much part of the community. We are asking children to find out from their parents if they have any photographs or memories of the school – because we find a lot of parents and grandparents went to the school themselves.

“We are also asking anyone in the wider community who may be able to help.

“We are then going to ask the children to write down those memories to create a special memories book.”

The school has 101 pupils, aged from four to seven years old.

Mrs Kane added: “We pride ourselves in being a family school. We are very caring and nurturing school and always encourage the children to do their best.”
