A WOMAN is appealing for information to help her find out more about a Victorian picture.

Margaret Wojturska, 58, found the sepia photograph in an old fire guard about three years ago.

It shows the South Moor Albion Football Club from the Stanley area of County Durham, which dates back to 1898, with a young man in the middle holding a collection of medals in a frame.

Ms Wojturska had been using the card picture as a back for a piece of Japanese silk, but remembered about it when she came to throw the silk out.

She said: “It had been inside a criss cross stitch embroidered patterned cover but I removed that when I went to change it for the silk and that is when I found the picture.”

The mother-of-three, from Belmont, near Durham City, said: “I am hoping to hear from one of the relations of the people in the picture or perhaps someone from a local history group who may be able to help.

“It seems that it would have been a shame not to share it with other people.

“It will be really interesting to find out a little bit more about it.”

Anyone who can help can call her on 07936 530806.
