DOZENS of vintage Volkswagens will descend on the world’s oldest railway this weekend.
Tanfield Railway, which dates back to the first half of the 17th Century, will play host to selection of classic cars on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24.
Dozens of vehicles are expected to turn out for the event organised by the ‘flat4dubs’ club, a Volkswagen club based in the North-East.
The cars, including Beetles, Kharman Ghias and classic camper vans, will be assembled at the Tanfield Railway’s display field near Andrews House station. Admission to take a look around the collection of cars is free.
There will also be steam train rides available for standard ticket prices.
Organiser Jorden Sayer said: “We’re always on the look-out for good places to bring our meets and Tanfield seemed like such a great fit.
“It’s got an atmosphere all of its own and it’s so easy to get to from most parts of the region. The interest we’ve had has been brilliant so we’re expecting a decent turn out.”
Tanfield Railway director David Watchman said: “We already know that there’s going to be some stunning vehicles attending and we’re really looking forward to the event.”
