A 12-YEAR-OLD boy who suffered serious facial injuries in a collision between two school buses has been discharged from hospital.
Twenty eight children and the two drivers were taken to hospital following the accident near Stanley, County Durham, on June 3.
A yellow double decker operated by Go North East was taking students to St Bede’s Catholic School, Lanchester, while the single decker Stanley Travel bus was taking students to Tanfield School.
The 12-year-old Tanfield School pupil, who suffered the worst injuries, was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he underwent surgery .
A police spokesman said today (Monday, June 16) the boy was now recovering at home.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
Meanwhile, the new intake of year sevens at St Bede’s are taking on the Great North Air Ambulance Service as one of their chosen charities in the forthcoming academic year, starting in September.
The school will hold fundraising events to raise money for the air ambulance and hand over a cheque to the charity at the end of the year.
