A CANCER charity is launching a new fundraising group in Consett and Stanley.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is collecting cash for the Newcastle hospice and the home nursing service Marie Curie Nurses provide in the area.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15, at 6.30pm at Consett Fire Station which is supporting the group by offering a free meeting venue.

Katie Searles, community fundraiser at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We already have some fantastic support in the Consett and Stanley area, but we would love to hear from anyone who would like to join the group.

“The meeting will let Consett and Stanley residents find out more about the plans for the group. And everyone is welcome.

“We are currently looking for a secretary for the group so if you are interested in this role, please get in touch

“Our fundraising groups are the local faces and voices of Marie Curie Cancer Care and do wonderful work raising the profile of the organisation as well as vital funds.”

The Consett and Stanley group will raise funds so Marie Curie Nurses can continue to provide free care to people with terminal illnesses in the area.

Members will also support fundraising campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal and Blooming Great Tea Party, as well as promoting fundraising within the local community and encouraging new supporters to help the charity.
