A BEAUTY pageant contestant is doing a 20-mile sponsored bike to raise money for charity.

Sophie Wallace, a Miss Durham hopeful, is cycling from her home in Annfield Plain, near Stanley, County Durham, to the Metrocentre and back.

She is raising money for the ABF The Soldiers' Charity and is doing the ride on April 21 with her brother, Scott.

Miss Wallace, who turns 20 on Thursday, April 10, is a former pupil of Greencroft Business and Enterprise Community School and on Easter Saturday she is doing a sponsored bag pack at Morrisons in Consett, from 12noon to 4pm.

She is now the second year of a degree in early years and education studies at Leeds Trinity University and hopes to become a primary school teacher.

Miss Wallace said: “I have had a really busy year at uni so this is taking my mind off study. It is something completely different and it is really exciting.

“I can’t believe I have come this far.”
