A TEENAGER is doing a sponsored swim to raise money for a military charity.

Amy Walsh, 17, from Tanfield Lea, near Stanley, County Durham, will swim 10km in aid of ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

The New College Durham student pupil is a Miss Durham finalist and the fundraising is part of the competition.

She will do 300 lengths of the pool at Belle Vue Swim Centre in Consett on April 13.

Miss Walsh, who has raised abour £500 so far, said: “I want to raise as much as we can. Winning Miss Durham would be a great sense of accomplishment and a good experience.”

Miss Walsh, a former Tanfield School pupil, also has to make an outfit from old clothes and another to reflect her personality as part of the contest.

The Miss Durham Final will be held on Saturday April 26 at Sedgefield Racecourse.
