RELATIVES of a father-of-two killed by a taxi have paid tribute.

Andrew Dawson, 38, from William Street, Craghead, near Stanley, County Durham, died after a collision with the vehicle at around 11pm on Saturday June 22.

The incident happened on Newacres Road, just north of the junction with Wagtail Lane, in Quaking Houses.

Mr Dawson was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham where he was later pronounced dead. The taxi driver was treated for shock.

A statement from his family, released through police, said: “As a family we are devastated by the loss of Andrew who was a very much loved son, partner and father to his two boys, who he taught to play football.

“Andrew was taken from us much too soon and his loss has left a hole in our hearts. He will be truly missed.”

The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held to determine the circumstances surrounding Mr Dawson’s death.

Police investigations are continuing and anyone with information is asked to call the non emergency number 101.
