A VILLAGE which lost its post office more than a year ago is getting a new one.

The post office in Wheatley Hill closed last February, with customers having to use a mobile service run by the postmaster from Sherburn instead.

The branch will be reopening at 1 Wingate Lane on June 22.

Martin Fretwell, area network change manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Wheatley Hill area.

“I know that the local community will join me in welcoming this good news and I hope that customers will continue to use the branch.”

A spokesperson for the company said: “Post Office has been working hard to identify a solution to restore permanent services to the local community. Post Office is pleased to confirm a new agent has been appointed.”

Services will be available seven days a week and people will be able to pay bills, do their banking, get benefits and get travel money.

Other services include special delivery, local collect, home shopping returns, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, topping up mobile phones and applying for travel insurance.

The opening hours will be 7:30am to 8:30pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 7:30pm on Sunday.

The mobile service will end on Friday, June 15.
