PLANS have been unveiled for a major affordable housing development in an east Durham village.
County Durham Housing Group has applied to Durham County Council for permission to build 50 homes on land to the north and south of at Truro Avenue, and to the west of St Ives Place, in Murton.
The development will comprise 24 bungalows, 4 dormer bungalows and 22 two-storey houses.
The brownfield development site previously contained social housing units which were
demolished a number of years ago.
Of the new units, 28 will be classified as specialist housing for rent - intended for older, vulnerable and disabled people.
The tenure for the remaining 22 units will be rent-to-buy. After five years of an affordable rent, tenants will then have an option to by their property.
Pedestrian access will be provided to the existing community forest immediately next to the adjacent to the northern boundary.
Access to the site would utilise the existing highway network and in-curtilage parking to all units is provided
This scheme would be delivered by local landlord, East Durham Homes.
