THE daughter of a retired police officer was almost three times over the drink-drive limit when she crashed into a parked tipper truck and left the scene on foot.

Jennifer Allan, 28, admitted to driving her Vauxhall Corsa after drinking vodka at a friend’s house she had intended to sleep over at but left the same night following an argument with her boyfriend.

The mother, of Lansbury Drive, in Seaham, wrote off her vehicle after hitting a stationary truck on Calvert Terrace, Murton, at around 11pm on October 21.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court heard police found Allan walking along a street near the incident.

Her solicitor said she did not have a mobile phone to report the crash and was walking home to contact the police.

A probation report added that Allan, a Sunderland University undergraduate studying a degree in nursing, was “extremely remorseful” for the incident.

Magistrates banned Allan from driving for two years and said she must complete 100 hours' unpaid work and pay £175 court costs.
