POLICE who investigated after a five-year-old girl was given a penis-shaped lolly while out trick or treating have concluded it was ‘an innocent mistake’.

The schoolgirl was out on Halloween with her big sister in Horden, near Peterlee, when they knocked on a stranger’s door.

A man answered and put sweets, including the Ann Summers’ willy lolly, into her collecting bucket.

Her sister was shocked when she noticed the adult-themed phallic sweet.

The Mirror reported the older girl said: “I felt sick and worried. I had people saying to me it might of being a joke towards me. Whether it was an innocent act or not, I definitely wouldn’t risk it with the amount of kids that play in this street.”

Inspector Lee Blakelock, from Peterlee Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “We have investigated the incident and can confirm it to be an innocent mistake.

“We do not believe anything sinister was meant by it and would like to reassure the community that there is no cause for alarm.”
