FAMILIES hit the beach to take part in activities including sandcastle building, arts and crafts and sport sessions.

A total of 25 children aged from four up to 17 took part in the fun on Seaham beach, organised by Durham County Council’s One Point Service.

A second session was held at a local park, where families took part in fun team-building activities, including stress ball-making.

One seven-year-old, who took part, said: “I haven’t been to the beach for a long time because my mum is poorly - I am really happy me and my sister were invited.”

The One Point Service provides support for children, young people and families from early pregnancy up to the age of 19, or 25 for young people with a disability.

It is made up of a number of staff who provide help with a range of issues including parenting skills, building positive relationships, reducing risk-taking behaviour, improving school attendance and progression into learning.
