DOZENS of new teachers have joined the North-East workforce after graduating from a school-based initial teacher training course at The Academy at Shotton Hall in Peterlee.

Nicky Hickman, director of the Shotton Hall Teaching School, said: “By training exclusively in schools, our new teachers have had the benefit of hands on experience that sets them apart, learning alongside talented teachers and interacting with students from day one.

“This is our fourth cohort of graduates and we are extremely proud of them.

“They have shown true enthusiasm and dedication towards the teaching profession and with most already securing jobs for September, we are confident they will go on to make fantastic teachers.”

Each of the 82 graduates has now been recommended to the National College of Teaching and Leadership for Qualified Teacher Status with a final formal graduation ceremony from course partners Durham University for the PGCE element of the course in early 2018.
